This is the most popular day hike in the Kathmandu Valley, and with good reason. You start on the Nagarkot ridge at 2,175m with a Himalayan panorama in front of you, then follow an old walking route down through pine forest and farming hamlets to Changu Narayan.
The temple at the end dates from the fifth century and is the oldest Hindu shrine still in use in Nepal, with stone carving that predates almost everything else in the valley.
